Meet Our Team

Woodsdale Animal Hospital Staff

  • Dr.
    Vicki Soares
    Veterinarian

Dr. Vicki Soares has had the desire to take care of animals since she was 6 years old.  Growing up on a farm exposed her to the life and death of animals causing her to develop an appreciation for the special bond between animals and people.  It has been her life goal to keep that bond strong.  Helping people learn how to take care of their pets, so they can live long healthy lives, is not only good medicine for the animals, but also helps the owners have healthier lives also.

Dr. Soares graduated from Michigan State University with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1994.

  • Dr.
    Karen Purcell
    Veterinarian

Dr. Karen Purcell was born and educated in Troy, NY.  She obtained her Bachelor's in Biology Magna cum laude from Pace University, Pleasantville Campus.  She then spent a year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute working on a masters in molecular biology, as librarian at WRPI, the campus radio station, and in the box office at RPI Players. She graduated with the Class of '92 from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell, the only veterinary school in the United States with a theatre troupe.

Dr. Purcell has worked as an associate veterinarian in New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts,  New Hampshire and North Carolina. In 1996, she spent her spare time writing her first book, Essentials of Ferrets: A Guide for Practitioners for AAHA Press. After spending her entire life in the Northeast, she is adjusting to the move south.  After 2 years helping out at Woodsdale Animal Hospital, she is now a permanent addition to our team.
